Vijay Sethupathi had a conflict with Vignesh Shivan during the filming of “Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.” In a recent discussion, Vijay Sethupathi shed light on the challenges he faced with Vignesh Shivan during the movie’s shoot.
Yesterday marked the release of Vijay Sethupathi’s 50th film, “Maharaja.” Despite receiving mixed reviews, his performance was widely praised. Amid this, Vijay Sethupathi has revealed details about the difficulties he encountered with Vignesh Shivan during the making of “Nanam Rowdy Than.”
Reflecting on his two-decade-long career and the directors who have shaped him, Vijay Sethupathi recounted his clashes with several filmmakers. He specifically mentioned his initial disagreements with Vignesh Shivan. “After the first day of shooting ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan,’ I called Vicky (Vignesh Shivan) and argued with him. I felt he was trying to teach me how to act, and I thought he didn’t understand me,” Vijay Sethupathi said.
He continued, “Four days into the shoot, Nayanthara asked me what was wrong between us. I explained that he was asking me to portray a very relaxed and carefree character, which was challenging for me.”
Vijay Sethupathi further elaborated, “When Vicky narrated the script, it sounded fantastic. But it took time for us to understand each other. I believe Vishnu Vishal was right in saying that it’s not easy to portray that character. When a carefree character cries, it should make everyone laugh. He’s a nice guy but a bit of a fraud. It took me four days to grasp the character, and I felt quite insecure during that period.”
He concluded by praising Vignesh Shivan, calling him a special and new generation director. “He approaches things in a way that’s hard to understand at first. If you trust him and go along with his vision, he can create magic. Experiences like these have shaped me into the actor I am today,” Vijay Sethupathi said.
