Rain Cools Down Chennai and Tamil Nadu
Chennai: Various parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, experienced widespread rains yesterday, bringing much-needed relief from the heat and creating a cooler environment.
Several areas in Chennai, such as Thiagaraya Nagar, Vadapalani, Saligramam, Nungambakkam, Thenampettai, Adyar, Rayapetta, and Besant Nagar, received moderate rainfall. The atmospheric conditions, characterized by a mantle circulation over southern India, have led to light to moderate rains with thunder and lightning in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, according to the Meteorological Department.
For the third consecutive night, rains have helped in significantly reducing the heat, offering a refreshing change. Thiagaraya Nagar, Vadapalani, Saligramam, Nungambakkam, Thenampettai, Adyar, Rayapetta, and Besant Nagar areas of Chennai witnessed moderate rain.
In addition to Chennai, Tirupur and nearby areas like Avinasi and Perumanallur also received rainfall. Salem district experienced heavy rains in various parts including Edappadi, Konganapuram, and Chettimangurichi. The intense rain, lasting over an hour, caused water accumulation on roads, inconveniencing motorists as rainwater flowed like a river on the main roads.
In Salem, areas such as Astampatty, Korimedu, Vincent, Churu Road, Arisipalayam, and the New Bus Stand were affected by rain for about half an hour.
Continued Rain Expected
The atmospheric mantle circulation over southern India is expected to bring moderate rain to parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until the 19th, as per the Meteorological Department’s forecast.
