AUM: Tracing the Journey Within is a captivating collaborative dance performance that invites audiences on a sacred journey through India’s revered Shiva Kshetras. The performance will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Medai – The Stage, Alwarpet, Chennai, starting at 6:30 PM. This 1 hour 30 minutes show blends Bharatanatyam and Odissi styles to celebrate the divine presence of Lord Shiva, transcending space and time.
A Journey Through Sacred Sites
Inspired by the sacred Shiva Kshetras that lie along the same longitudinal axis, the dance explores the omnipresent sound of AUM, the cosmic vibration that resonates through the universe. Shiva, the sun around whom all celestial bodies revolve, is depicted through a harmonious blend of traditional dance forms and music. Drawing inspiration from Saint Deekshitar’s Panch Bhoota Kritis, this performance takes the audience on a journey from Kedarnath to Rameshwaram, symbolizing an inward exploration of the self. This journey celebrates the timeless truth that while the body undergoes fluctuations, the soul remains steady, seeking refuge in the supreme formless deity, Shiva.
A Collaborative Dance Work
This performance brings together two classical dance forms—Bharatanatyam and Odissi—in a seamless fusion, guided by the expertise of renowned dancers Dr. Sahana Selvaganesh and Pooja Kale. The choreography is set to the melodies and rhythms of a talented ensemble of musicians.
