About Ajoy Chakrabarty

Ajoy Chakrabarty stands as a towering figure in the Indian classical music tradition. Renowned for his command over the Patiala-Kasur Gharana style, he has mastered and imbibed elements from several gharanas, including Indore, Delhi, Jaipur, Gwalior, Agra, Kirana, and Rampur, as well as the Carnatic music tradition of South India.

Chakrabarty’s academic excellence in music, graduating as a gold medalist from Rabindra Bharati University, and his association with the prestigious ITC Sangeet Research Academy have established him as a paragon of musical learning and innovation. His repertoire spans a vast range of genres, including khayal, Tarana, thumri, Rabindra Sangeet, folk songs, and Nazrul-geeti.

For over four decades, he has trained countless young artists at ITC-SRA and his institute Shrutinandan in Kolkata, fostering the next generation of classical musicians.
