Re-release of ‘Indian’ Falls Short of ‘Gilli’s’ Collection
The first-day box office collection for the re-released 1996 classic ‘Indian’ has been revealed. Despite high expectations, the film’s earnings couldn’t match the phenomenal re-release performance of ‘Gilli.’
Directed by Shankar, ‘Indian’ stars Kamal Haasan in a dual role, with a supporting cast that includes Manisha Koirala, Sukanya, Kaundamani, Senthil, Nedumudi Venu, and Manorama. The film originally received widespread acclaim and box office success, known for its compelling story, screenplay, direction, songs, and performances, which continue to resonate with fans.
The much-anticipated sequel, ‘Indian 2,’ is set to release on July 12. This film features an ensemble cast including Kamal Haasan, Siddharth, S.J. Suriya, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Bobby Simha, Priya Bhavani Shankar, and Vivek. As part of the promotional efforts for ‘Indian 2,’ the original ‘Indian’ was re-released on June 7, receiving a warm response from fans.
However, the re-release of ‘Indian’ garnered a first-day collection of Rs. 1.1 crore, significantly lower than ‘Gilli’s’ re-release, which collected Rs. 10 crore on its first day and remained in theaters for 50 days. Despite the lower earnings compared to ‘Gilli,’ ‘Indian’ still outperformed other new releases this week.
