Kangana Ranaut’s Slap Incident Revives Focus on 2020 Farmers’ Protest Controversy: All You Need to Know

Kangana Ranaut, the newly-elected BJP MP from Himachal’s Mandi constituency, found herself in the spotlight again on Thursday after a woman CISF constable allegedly slapped her during a security check at Chandigarh airport. The constable, identified as Kulwinder Kaur, voiced her objections to Kangana’s controversial remarks made during the 2020 farmers’ protest.

Constable’s Mother at Farmers’ Protest

In a viral video, Kaur was seen confronting Kangana, saying, “My mother was there,” referring to Kangana’s statement claiming that women at the farmers’ protest were paid ₹100 each to sit at the Delhi borders. Kaur expressed her outrage, recalling Kangana’s remark: “Kangana said the women were sitting in the farmers’ protests for ₹100. Will she go and sit there? My mother was sitting there and protesting when she made that remark.”

Following the incident, Kaur was suspended, taken into custody, and an FIR was filed against her. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) also initiated a court of inquiry into the matter.

Kangana’s Concerns Over ‘Terrorism in Punjab’

Reacting to the slap incident, Kangana expressed her concerns over what she termed as increasing terrorism in Punjab. She alleged that the constable approached her and struck her in the face, followed by verbal abuse. Kangana recounted, “As soon as I came out after the security check, the lady in the second cabin, a CISF security staff, came from the side, hit me on my face, and started abusing me. When I asked her why she did so, she said that she supports the farmers’ protest. I am safe, but my concern is that terrorism is increasing in Punjab… How do we handle that?”

Kangana’s 2020 Post on Farmers’ Protest

Rewinding to 2020, farmers marched towards Delhi to protest against the farm laws that were eventually repealed. During this time, Kangana Ranaut sparked controversy by misidentifying an elderly woman at the protest as Bilkis Bano, a prominent figure from the Shaheen Bagh protests. In a tweet, now deleted, Kangana alleged that the woman was “available for ₹100” to participate in protests. This statement provoked significant backlash and condemnation, leading to a heated exchange on social media with actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh, who criticized her for spreading misinformation and urged her to stop fueling tension.

Despite deleting the tweet after widespread criticism, Kangana faced numerous legal notices demanding an unconditional apology for her ‘derogatory’ statement.

Summary

Kangana Ranaut’s recent altercation with a CISF constable at Chandigarh airport has reignited discussions about her controversial comments during the 2020 farmers’ protest. The incident underscores the lingering tensions surrounding her remarks and their impact on public discourse.
